Adverse Childhood Experiences ACEs - what are they and how can we reduce the impact on ourselves and families?

Picture
Some twenty years ago an American doctor started some research into how difficulties when growing up would affect long term outcomes and the results have been shocking.

The ACEs study's results show that these issues in childhood contribute to health problems decades later. These include chronic diseases—such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes—that are the most common causes of death and disability. It also shows a major impact on risk taking behaviours and other social issues.

The ACEs Recovery toolkit is a 10-week course that provides an understanding of living with ACEs, and what we can do to reduce the impact it has on us and our families.

Youth Connect 5 is a training course that gives parents and carers the knowledge, skills and understanding to help their children develop strong emotional well-being through resilience-building techniques. We are delivering courses in London and on the Wirral.
As parents, we develop our own approaches to nurturing, caring for and developing our children as they grow from babies through to young adults. But sometimes situations arise in life – either at home or at school – that may bring some challenges for you and your child to deal with.
Being able to deal with these challenges, and helping your child manage life when it gets tough will make them stronger and improve their chances of being able to bounce back when things are stacked against them.
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach, but Youth Connect 5 will teach you the skills you can then draw upon to both build your own resilience, but most importantly your child’s.
Facilitated by Merseyside Youth Association with funding by CHAMPS, the Public Health Collaborative in Cheshire and Merseyside through Health Education England.
